JOSEPH Mac DONALD
BIOGRAPHY
I was born in a windswept fishing village called Port au Port,
located in the Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland.
There were 15 of us brothers and sisters, and our parents had
their work cut out for them trying to keep track of us all. Both
my parents were hard workers. My dad was a lobster
fisherman, a farmer and I guess jack of all trades too. My mom
knew how to can anything, bake anything, sew anything and
she worked from dawn til dusk to keep things running
smoothly.
The majestic beauty of Newfoundland left an indelible
impression on my soul, and was the major influence of my
artwork and the mediums I chose. Because of being formed
from the 'Rock' I am more an impressionistic artist than
anything else, and my medium of choice is usually acrylics.
ARTIST STATEMENT
The aim of my art is to soothe the viewer and to draw people
into seascapes, landscapes and other depictions which
hopefully 'take you away' to another place, another time, fondly
remembered, fondly recalled..
