Volunteer Opportunities
Veith Street Gallery Studio Association has seen tremendous growth in the last year. We are looking for committed volunteers to help us to continue to
grow and support the Organization and the artists of Creative Spirit East who are facing a variety of challenges. Veith Street Gallery Studio Association
is looking for volunteers, who have an interest in the arts, or are perhaps artists themselves, to assist in the following areas.
Gallery Operations and Community / Off Site Exhibitions
Education and Outreach
Fund raising / Public Relations
Volunteer Gallery Attendants and Volunteer Off Site Exhibition Assistants / Driver
Veith Street Gallery Studio Association is unique in that it has two permanent exhibition venues and three off site or community exhibition venues. The
two permanent exhibition spaces are Veith Street Gallery in Halifax and the Pedway Picture Gallery in Dartmouth. The three off site or community
exhibition venues are Teamworks Cooperative, APSEA (Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority) and the Disabled Persons Commission. Each
exhibition venue has its own operational requirements. As a result of this the Volunteer Gallery Attendants and Community / Off Site Exhibition
Assistant and Driver require a diverse range of skills sets.
Volunteer Gallery Attendant - Veith Street Gallery (1-3 volunteer(s) req'd)
Time allotment: One half day per week (4-5 hrs)
Duties:
• Assists with clerical duties such as updates to our inventory list, membership list and preparing exhibition
tags (all PC-computer based).
• Greet visitors and answer the telephone - relay information regarding VSGSA and gallery
operation (organizational mandate, goals, accomplishments, hours of operation, etc.)
• Assists with sales of artwork including handling cash and writing receipts.
Volunteer Picture Framer
Time allotment: One half day per week (4-5 hrs)
Duties:
• In consultation with curator and artists, selects, prepares and installs mats and frames for display of artworks.
• Works with the gallery mat cutting equipment and donated frames.
• Someone, interested in designing and building, or consulting in the development of standard gallery
frames would be desirable.
Volunteer Off Site Exhibition Assistant / Driver (1-3 volunteer(s) req'd)
Time allotment: 3 afternoons per month
Duties:
• Transports curators and artwork to and from 3 off site exhibition sites, two in Halifax and one in Dartmouth.
• Assists with installation and dismantling of art exhibitions
• Requires a car.
Volunteer Gallery Attendant – Pedway Picture Gallery (1-3 volunteer(s) req'd)
Time allotment: 3 Days a week / 2 hours per day
Duties:
• Movement of artworks and gallery furniture from storage to gallery location within same complex (Alderney Landing)
• Assists with installation of artworks 10 am to 11am and/or dismantling of art exhibitions 15 minutes prior to close and takes approximately 45
minutes to
complete
• This process requires lifting, stretching and carrying.
Education and Outreach Volunteer and VSGSA Fund raiser / Public Relations Volunteers
Along with the gallery and off site exhibitions Veith Street Gallery Studio Association also requires Volunteers for its Community Education and
Outreach programs offered through the Visual Connections Project, as well as assisting with fund raising and Public Relations for the organization.
Education and Outreach Volunteer (The Visual Connections Project)
Time Allotment: As required by Education and Outreach Curator
Duties:
• Assist in the delivery of community arts education programs for persons with disabilities.
Requirements:
• Have First Aid / CPR training.
• Must be willing to have Criminal Records check done.
VSGSA Fund raiser / Public Relations Volunteer
Time Allotment: One half day per week (4 – 5 hours)
Duties:
• Research funding sources (i.e. Government, Private Sector, Foundations).
• Assist in the development of funding proposals.
• Assist in the VSGSA Kindred Spirit Membership drive.
• Assist staff in the development of public relations materials.
