Artist Statement and Bio
Born and raised in Halifax. I sought adventure and moved to Ontario, graduating from Loyalist College
two -year Advertising Program. Although a worthwhile endeavour, I missed friends, family and
especially the ocean. Prior to that, graphic arts production and photography courses. At NSCAD, I
completed a life drawing course and obtained the Certificate in Visual Presentation Skills on the Mac,
through Continuing Education.
When I was little, drawing with crayons, I wanted the colours to be as intense as possible, trying to get
the most vivid red. I enjoyed making mud pies and drawing horses. One day, I decided to change the
colour of a tree in our front yard, so I painted the leaves a nice red. Don't worry the tree is fine.
I'm pulled toward the Abstract, be it dark and twisty or the complete opposite. I enjoy art that draws one
in. Sometimes I paint or draw from an idea in my head, or reference a photo or drawing for inspiration.
Art, to me, can be a journey of self discovery.
The human/animal bond makes me happy. Horses are my passion, they tend to show up in my art as
often as they can. I feel honoured when a horse in particular, or cat or dog, choose to communicate
without words. Quirky and unique in their personality/horseonality/animalonality? All have a story to tell,
I respect them all.
